GAAR 2020 Leg#3 Wave Hill to Tennant Creek
As you can see, we are preparing our B-25's for the onward flight to Tennant Creek and load the last boxes of toilet paper to trop. We have therefore successfully completed our toilet paper first aid order.
We draw a straight line on the flight cards and come to the end: Maximum take-off weight (19t), about 1hr 20min flight time and burn about 250 US gallons of aviation fuel.
Finally a cup of coffee in the tent..
.. and then: gentlemen, start your engines!
The residents of Wave Hill can really celebrate and love the barley, malt and hop drink!
No wonder, there is no such a razzmatazz every day!
So I reach my take off position..
.. and set engine power!
You get used to it..
Rotate.. WOW, pulling takes strength..
.. and goodbye. Thank you!
I'm heading straight to Tennant Creek.. and below me the "Blue Lagoon" salt pan passes by.
Cattle stations here were only possible thanks to this river!
The Victoria River.. he is the longest permanent river in the Northern Territory and flows into the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf in no man's land!
Desert !
Still, it can rain quite a bit! About 470mm a year.. and it can get hot too ..
The highest temperature ever measured was more than 45 °C
In between, Thom reports on the radio with his position and well-being..
"All boxes have been dropped," he says. "Some big extra drinks for you" I say!
The Tennant Creek Airfield is in sight! I initiate my descent.
There is enough time for a flyover, and I decide to land on runway 11
Pretty thermal..!
All set in the cockpit and I can land.. says the man on the Multicom.
Well then!
A somewhat rumble and a bit fast landing..
So I leave the runway at the very end!
Voila, Tennant Creek apron!
Almost a millimeter job.. but the Marshaller does it well!
Engines and other switches to OFF!
Thom made it too! Very good!
Well, our job is done for today..
They made themselves very pretty, half the city is here.. and the drinks supply works!
Now the cozy part comes, in good company!
Easy-going!
Cheers
