Hmmm, always last to post, although I've got one of the fastest birds of this rally... Probably doing too many things in the same time ! Here is leg 7, from wet Phillip Island to Devonport. It was early for me too, this morning and as I left all doors open while enjoying beers with all the friends, I had to mop the cabin and cockpit before starting my engines : wind pushed rain inside and it was flooded everywhere... Short runway, so I loaded minimum required fuel and offloaded a few beer cases. I taxied as far as I could on runway 04, trying not to get stuck in the mud. And finally, with flaps at 15, I stood on the brakes while advancing throttle to full power... The bird jumped... ... and was airborne early enough I cannot fly long in these conditions (I hate flying blind - or IFR if you prefer) Cool, it gets much better higher up Beautiful sunrise I enjoy a peaceful cruise in this great cockpit From time to time I can see the ocean below Time to work again : Devonport airport is in sight and I'm turning downwind for runway 06 I'm a bit early, so flying this half pattern will allow me to do some sightseeing - here we're approaching Devonport harbour Mersey River mouth Turning Base over Don River mouth Back over Mersey River, in a long final Almost perfectly lined up (no crosswind today) As I still was early, I touched down as late and slow (70 kts !!!) as possible and avoided to use the brakes before really necessary Parked in Tasmania - wow, rather far from home !!! Let's look for this jazz concert !

Always beautiful pictures, mates! I like these old AN-2's! Could see one flying in real life at the Air Meeting in La Ferté-Allais I was fortunate enough to attend in 2009... And Urs, thank you for the Devonport-Ouverture. Lot of talents around!!! Philippe

GAAR 2017, Leg8, Devonport to St. HelensWow! Gigot on the BBQ-Grill, a spectacular grand display of fireworks, moody Jazz.. and delicious Tasmanian red wine..! I think the GAAR management is going bust…! Nevertheless – it was great fun! OK, back to work.. cockpit preparations, flightplans etc.. are done. Ready to start! at davidrevans.. your Howard DGA 15 aeroplane looks quite handy! FSX machine? As always.. a trustworthy engine start! On my way for runway06 – funny signs around here!! The weather today looks promising and I hope for cool pictures..! Oh, „Phil“ is on the Multicom: „Short base for runway06“.. I better wait here.. you never know! There he comes! Sorry „Phil“ this MY taxiway!! See ya! The DC3 is about to vacate the runway ! Lets taxiing into position.. .. and soon after, a brilliant outlook! Like: Port Sorell, just 20 kays east of Devonport, is located on the Rubicon River, and its one of many popular holiday spots along the north coast of Tasmania. The region borders the Rubicon Esturay, and is an important bird area because of its importance for waders, especially pied oystercatchers. Oh! Oysters?? I need some fresh Oysters tonight!! Another highlight coming up! The «Mount Maurice Forest Reserve».. its one of the most excellent parks in Tassie’s north-east.. Of course you can do some perfect hikes here – but it is better to do it in a aeroplane (your pulse-beat will be lower!!) Now I know, why the GAAR chief flight planning manager (Rob) recommends runway08 for landing!! Too easy from the east.. Eh? But what a view! St. Helen is the largest town on the north-east coast of Tasmania, on Georges Bay. It is known as the game fishing capital of Tasmania and is also renowned for its oysters! After taking many more photographs – its time to think about the landing! Jazzthom must be on ground already.. and glider activity also is reported in the vicinity! I have to keep attitude..! You see that tree just in front of the runway? Just in time and a „not bad“ landing! Strange.. Thom’s AN2 is sitting in front of the hangar?.. Cooee! He got a burst RH-tyre!! Take it easy Pal!! Lets go for oysters and some very cold Chardonnay!

I was to concentrated on the BBQ,...damn'd taxying to the aeroclub to get some help.....beer has to wait so far there's a friendly invitation.... good to have some spare parts on board,...so this needs just a little time.... everything well done,...lets wait for Urs,...just heared him fly in.... cleared to land, Urs!
