While doing preliminary work for the traditional end-of-rally firework display, I've made an unfortunate discovery: The expected landing runway at YCBG Cambridge is 12; In real life YCBG Cambridge has 09/27, 12/30, and 14/32; The (minimalist) default scenery for FS9 has 09/27 and 14/32, but NOT 12/30; A quick trawl of the web has failed to show any suitably updated freeware AF2 or scenery files. Gentlemen I go absolutely with johnl! The default scenery in FSX "YCBG" out for the count.. I had to start from scratch... and building a new one with the help of ADE (Airport Design Editor). - I had a look at Google Earth to check the airport scenery around YCBG and saved the picture into ADE - Then I loaded the Stock Airport YCBG into ADE and started working... - New polygons to flatten the area and to make space for rwy 12/30 - New polygons to design the landclass - Then checking in FSX.. a lot of adjustments had to be done!! - Building up the run- and taxiways - Building up space for parking and others - Now so far its OK - Decoration is the next step Find some views below Cheers Urs New airport background and landclass to make space for rwy 12/30 Keeping the shoreline in mind.. Putting some deco on the cliff.. looks a bit funny! Space for parking and others New taxiways, lines and signs Now it looks accordingly Google Earth But not finished yet.. Cheers Urs

Hi Urs, Thanks for all the work that you are putting in. Un fortunately the airport at Cambridge is not listed on the Australian AIP for confirmation. It is more of a flying club airport next to Hobart International and obviously there are discrepancies showing up between the various sim's.
I know many do not like to add or change things on their flight sim so a suggestion would be to use Hobart International for the arrival rather than Cambridge. By doing that it would not make a difference to the route or Navaid data, just a quick update on the arrivals information of the flight plan, what would be your thoughts on doing that ? It may be a lot simpler for those that are not computer experts, like me :-)
Let me know what you think and when Allan returns home this coming weekend we can sort it out from there.
Thanks and cheers Rob

Hi Rob Difficult question.. I designed YCBG just for my own pleasure and use, because I don't like the default scenerys in FSX at all! In my own view, I would leave the flightplans as they are developed! The default YCBG may looks very simpel, but it's usable! Cheers Urs

Like uhug said " simple but usable " which is a good thing at my age! What I can not wait to see is what uhug an the other sim pilots scenery guys come up with during the event. Every year they just get better and better, can almost smell the food cooking on the grills, the oil dripping from the radial engines..

Okay guys, will leave as is. If your sim has a discrepancy in the flight planned runway, just use the closest runway direction to the plan.

I'm doing separate fireworks packages for 12/30 and 14/32 (DON'T install both!) . Also, I've done a ("Q&D") FS9-only AFCAD file which includes 12/30 and some parking, and I'll upload that as well. Current layout (ex AIP Australia Nov 2016) www.airservicesaustralia.com/aip/current/ersa/FAC_YCBG_10-Nov-2016.pdfLooking at YCBG on Google Earth, 12/30 is a recent addition (and may be replacing 14/32 to stop problems with the Hobart rwy12 approach?), but the oldest image (2005) suggests that there may have been a shorter and previously abandoned grass 12/30 runway.

Hi John,
Thanks for your work on the fireworks, I am sure it will be appreciated by all that are flying regardless of runway directions on the various sim's.
As mentioned before, no change to the flight plan and whether you land on runway 12 or 14 I am sure everyone will enjoy the arrival and then there is the big BBQ to follow.
Cheers Rob

Morning all,
Back from the frozen South, just in time for it to cool down here.
My apologies for the slip-up on my part. Rob does the heavy lifting route finding in P3D, and all I have to do is check for any issues in FS9 and FSX as I set up the start flights. My check on the final arrival consisted of setting up the start flight for the last day then moving to the final airport.
Just rechecked and I see that the default runway in both FS9 and FSX is runway 32, so I will have spotted the 2 on the runway and missed that it was 200 degrees out.
Thanks to John for the fireworks, in future I will fly round all airfields to make sure that I have not missed anything.
The initial roster will go up in the next hour or so.
Cheers, allan

Nice work Urs. I saw an interesting bit of trivia on Google Earth. The runway was opened about late 2011 as R13/31 but was re-designated R12/30 during 2014. The airport is listed in the "Enroute Supplement" as Hobart/Cambridge which is the Department's practice in the big cities, Sydney/Bankstown, Melbourne/Moorabbin........... My copy IS a little old, 1993 !! Ed

Hi Ed Tks. - yeah a crazy airfield it is, and I found this one here! It can be clearly seen, that former Rwy 12/30 is no more in use and demolished!! Rwy 13/31 looks brand new - re-designated again to Rwy12/30 ?? Okay - let's have some work in ADE Cheers Urs

How was the movie Urs ?
Naturally dramatised a little for entertainment but fairly close to the real events.

I enjoyed the restored aircraft, and seeing the ruggedness of the land, a fantastic area that never seems to get shown in movies here in the United States.
