Alright guys, let's have those beers together in Longreach when we get there. I've got a full load of them in the back of my plane, and I've been told it's cool to sit in the shade under that old 747 parked at Longreach airport. OK ? Then we can talk of marshallers, engine smoke, mud and our dear old birds. I like the DC-3 very much, but wanted a change after I flew it 20 hours last Nov-Dec during DC-3 Airways World Rally. I also like the Metroliner, but couldn't find any good model for FS9... See you there and please, bring something to eat. Raphael

capflyer,
don't know why you had to park in the grass at Normanton. Even the FS9 default airport is fitted with a (bizarre-shaped) asphalt apron. And I'm glad, because the HS.748 is much more difficult to taxi with than to fly !
jazzthom,
I was just joking, of course, but thank you for sharing with us your knowledge on these old engines with incredible names. I remember I saw your overhaul screenshots before the Rally and trust you when you say that GAAR staff are taking care that all participants' aircrafts are in good condition. I know about the effects parameters, but prefer not to activate engine smoke. I like your screenshots, so please keep posting them till the end. And as you guessed, English is also not my mother language :-)
Ciao, Raphael

I am really admirative of the quality of the screenshots posted here. Congratulations, guys ! And the sceneries / textures / lights effects (ENB series, maybe ?) are really nice. Here are some shots of leg 2, from Tindal to Ngukurr. Lining up on Rwy 14 at Tindal Rotate Cruising at 13'500 ft - and not much to see down here The great Rick Piper's HS.748 fully functional VC cockpit In final for Rwy 11 at Ngukurr (had to make a low pass first to get all dingos, cassowaries, kangaroos and wombats out of the runway) Strong headwind here Oops, I forgot to feather my props Thanks for watching and see you further in the Australian bush, Raphael

Thank you Rob for the answer.
It's clear, I'll do as you say. I like Tom Goodrick's timer and will continue using it.
Cheers, Raphael

Hello everybody,
just a question about how to record flight time on legs which include a touch-and-go or a full engine stop at an intermediate airport.
1) I guess Tom Goodrick's timer will continue to record time if speed doesn't get under 30 kts while rolling on the runway during touch-and-go at intermediate airport --> I must report in PIREP the total time after arrival at destination airport (example : leg five) ?
2) in case of full stop landing at an intermediate airport (example : legs seven and eight), I read that Goodrick's timer will reset when I take-off for the second part of the flight --> shall I write down the time after landing at intermediate airport and then just manually add it to the time recorded by Goodrick's timer while landing at destination ?
Hope I'm not too confused and also that I didn't miss anything already explained somewhere.
Thanks in advance for advice and best regards, Raphael

Peter,
thank you for that interesting information about the real G-ARAY HS.748. It's amazing that among the forty or so guys flying the GAAR, we find one that travelled inside the real bird !!! This world is definitely small, as we say in French...
Glad to learn that G-ARAY flew in Scotland, as I really like this region, even though I never flew there - just cycled around (from Dover to Orkney islands).
Looking forward to see your screenshots, and those of capflyer.
I'm impressed by the fact that you guys fly all the way to Australia for the Rally (not enough time myself for this, sorry).
Cheers, Raphael

Thank you Rob.
You've been flying in the legendary DC-3, that's great !
Unfortunately, I don't think I ever saw a real HS.748, unless the plane I once travelled with between New Delhi and Kullu was one - not sure as the airline had F-27, Do-228 and HS.748 ... but I like very much Rick Piper's model for FS9. The most "exotic" planes in which I flew (as a passenger) were Pakistani & Indian Fokker-27, a Czech Illyushin IL-18, a Ugandan LET-410, a Thai Shorts-360, a Russian Tupolev (probably 154-M)... And my preferred flights were in a Cessna Caravan in Uganda and a Beechcraft B1900C in Afghanistan.
See you further in the Rally, Raphael

Thank you Rob and Philippe.
I'm afraid I cannot spend as much time on screenshots as during DC3 Airways World Rally last November. But judging from what has already been posted here, I'm sure we will all enjoy some very beautiful pics.

Hello everybody, I'm glad to join the GAAR for the first time ! I've been flying DC3 Airways World Rally each year since 2009, but NEVER flew in Australia. I'm really looking forward to discover the country - and VOZ scenery for FS9. Here is a picture of my second landing at Argyle, for the flight test. Got exactly the same time as the first try. Hope to meet you at one of the airfield bars along the way. Best regards from Geneva, Switzerland, Raphael
