The NZAR was compiled using the New Zealand AIP, FS9 and FSX. Pilots may find a few discrepancies from these sources, mainly the NDB frequencies, where this has occurred we have referred back to the FS menu. The route weather has been downloaded from the FS standard menus for FS9 and FSX. This exercise has proved that the two sims do not record the same weather, so anyone flying aircraft in each sim should take the differences in weather up with Microsoft! Pilots may use any scenery they wish relevant for the rally. Pilot wishing to use procedure departures / arrivals or ILS landings may do so, all relevant information regarding this can be obtained from the New Zealand AIP web site at www.aip.net.nz. The idea of the rally is to have fun..fun..fun. There are no prizes for coming first. Your aim as a pilot is to complete each leg of the rally as close as possible to your time allotted for that leg. Your timing starts from "Brakes Off" for your take-off run to "Full Stop" on your landing roll. Taxi and run-up times are NOT included. Only paved runways have been listed on the Airport Data information. Pilots may use any runway direction they wish for take-off and landing, this includes grass or dirt runways at the same airport. Additional runway information is available at the New Zealand AIP web site. Cruise altitude is pilots choice.

The flight plan track headings are a direct heading from each point to point, naturally some variations will occur depending on your chosen take-off and landing directions and when you make your en- route turns. It is pilots responsibility to make the necessary small corrections.
On some of the mountain crossings you will need an altitude of 10,000 feet plus, choose your aircraft carefully.
En-route you are asked to visually sight some airfields for course corrections, some of these airfields only have a grass runway, it may be necessary to descend to a lower altitude to identify the airfield.
A little personal homework before flying the leg is highly recommended

I understand that the test flight cruising altitude is recommended to fly at 7000 ft. Are the cruising altitudes for flights 1 thru 10 up to the pilots flying them?

Yes Gary, cruise altitude for the legs is pilots choice. The only reason 7000 FT was selected for the test flight is because we are allowing piston engine and turboprop driven aircraft to compete in the event and 7000 Ft was chosen as a medium between the two varients.
Cheers

As we are always trying to improve these type of events and make it even more enjoyable for the pilots participating I would very like your opinions on the format of the flight plans. Do you like how the flight plans were formatted, yes or no, and any suggestions that you may have for compiling future flight plans for GAAR 2016 etc. Please leave your comments in one of the NZAR15 Forums, all will be taken onboard and appreciated. Many thanks to the pilots flying for your input.

Just to let you know that there is a package of airport diagrams available for free download for all airports we are using in the NZAR15 at Mutleys Hangar. The direct link is forum.mutleyshangar.com/index.php/files/file/5465-nzar-2015-airport-diagrams/You do not need to be a member or have I.D. for Mutleys Hangar to download these files. Our thanks must go to John Allard for producing this package for our flights. Cheers Rob

Due to a technical glitch, or more likely finger trouble on my part, the flight information pdf was missing. I have now uploaded it. Apologies to all.

We now have fireworks for the last night courtesy of John Lawler. No Air Rally would be complete without them!
The link is on the front page for the event, if you don't see it refresh the page.
