Leg Seven Gibb River YGIB – Wyndham YWYM
after a nice and really friendly stay over, it's time to fly on...
there are two trees, I would cut off, if I had to fly in here more often,...so what's up? never mind,..we landed and took off...
a little monotonous area to fly....
hopefully we don't have to go down anywhere in this vaste land....Ellenbraes Staion would offer a small landing stip about 7 miles north from here....
Chapman River and one of his arms in front of us...
as if the devil was here, we suddenly have some irregular ignitions on the right engine and looking back we have a smoky trail from the right engine
somehow it seems bewitched,...we had this in other rallys before....
we cannot detour to Ellenbrae although it would be near, but they do not offer any maintenance on aircrafts and if,.......not for old birds
there is a nearby Home Staion down there and we could ty a landing on the straight road, but what then??? and anyway ,..nobody at the radio,..Home Station is closed....
still 40 more miles to go and with leaning mixture pulling back and forward to full rich, working on throttle and magnetos on the right engine,...oil temp comes back to normal measures ...and the smoke has gone...
cockburn Ranges in front, Cambridge Golf in the distance and just passing Windham Rd. 30 miles from our targrt the nervosity disappears slowly, as both engines run smoothly...
maybe just a stuck oil valve or something else weird what has gone...maybe just the wrong power setting on the right engine,...who knows... we'll check later....
some gusts and shear winds from the thermic winds near the C.Range...no problem....this bird has seen more...
Cambridge Golf, the West Arm of C. River and King River ahead,...10 more minutes....
Windham airfield in sight, radio clearing approved and landing configuration checked....
just routine approach and...
turning to final
RWY 12 and our feelings released....
our exhaust smoke is just "normal" LOL...
touch down and what a surprise,...Urs must have been here befor, or even made an organisation for a bbq, as in all the past GAARs
well, that seems to be true,...with open windows we seem to smell the hot steaks and saussages from the BBQ ...
Urs MUST have been here for sure: Lobster, Wine, Beer from Switzerland and Austria,...what a great gesture....
but first taxi to parking place and hello to the other airmen....
this is a very friendly and warm hearted welcome!!!!
hurry up, engines shut down,...go for a beer and check later...LOL
GAAR authorities in anticipation....
that's life and if you search carefully you might find Urs somewhere...
just enjoy the show,....
....and all the goods on the grill and the nice beverages!!! Cheers!!!
.....see the beer???
this will be one of the best stopovers ever....
peaceful party with friends!!!!!!!!!
