Hello Thom. Thank you for the compliments. I definitely like MSFS. There are people who call it a bing viewer and may be it is not the best sim for study level airliners with ATC and all, but for a rally like the GAAR it is near perfect. See you at the nexr flight. Kind regards, Luuk

hey Luuk,...your settings ar magnificent,...I only have FSX on an old XP machine.... leg6 YLEO-YSCR
ready for taxi... and take off,..bye bye was not to busy over here... my working place for the next hours,...all systems go.... following the Goldfields Hwy.... Lake Ballard to the right.... Lake Marmion in front... Lake Goongarrie to the right.... a lot of water over here (sometimes to much....) Goongarrie National Park This park lies on the edge of vast mulga woodlands, features a number of granite outcrops and includes part of Lake Marmion... Goongarrie has a golden past. It was the first important gold find after Coolgardie. During the 1890s, Goongarrie was known as Ninety Mile. It boasted hotels, bed and breakfasts, a Cobb & Co coach stop, and railway. Now, three remaining historic railway cottages are part of the Golden Quest Heritage Trail. approaching Kalgoorlie / Boulder with the "Super Pit" on the left.... on downwind Rwy 29 turning to base... and perfect view to the mining area the Super Pit, was Australia's largest open cut gold mine until 2016 when it was surpassed by the Newmont Boddington gold mine also in Western Australia. The Super Pit is located off the Goldfields Highway on the south-east edge of Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. The pit is oblong in plan view and is approximately 3.5 kilometres long, 1.5 kilometres wide and over 600 metres deep. on final my PC creates a magic golf course cannot believe, as the map shows Old Bolder Cemetery....lol another one wheel touch... and go... view back onto this TOWN.... following the Great Eastern Hwy and the running parallel pipeline many (for me ) unknown and unnamed natural parks flew bye and we just crossed the Goldfields Woodlands This park lies within the Great Western Woodlands. This is the largest remaining area of intact Mediterranean climate woodland left on earth. A highlight of the park is its attractive spring wildflower displays. who knows if there will ba a possibility to see this with my own eyes,...I doubt... to bad Urs is no longer here ,...he would have known many interesting stories.... as he was already here.... maybe he sits on the moon watching us Southern Cross in front....non visible.... as its "only" a grass strip, its nearly invisible.... at last.... flaring out and touch down in.. perfect timing!!!!!! we made EXACTLY our target time on parking position for the next week as I meet a good old friend in his trailer who is sightseeing Australia... very comfortable trailer and a lot of beer... lol the sun is sinking in the west,..it's time for a cowboy to dream... ( a song from movie Rio Grande with Dean Martin....:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uuAjwvtxEM ) Ernie prefers the solo cockpit as we are singing and laughing in the trailer... that's okay.... see you soon!!!!

Leg 4 YTEF to YMEK
Just after take-off at Telfer. This time a got a good view on the mine. After 15 minutes the stripes of the previous leg return in a new variation. Coming close to Newman with a view to the Opthalmia Dam and down below to Warrawandu Camp. Starting the climb back to cruising altitude after a succesfull touch and go at Newman. 2 hours into the flight, I think we have left the stripes behind. And than, at 2 hours and 15 minutes into the flight, completely unexpected a narrow ridge with deep valleys. Landed after 3 hours and 18 minutes, very close to the target time.
Parked at Meekatharra airport

Flight 05 YMEK - YLTN - YLEO Because of the wind from the SE I departed from runway 15 in stead of the recommended rwy 09. The Pilatus has no problem with dirt runways.
16 minutes in the flight, the sun still low. Some 60 NM from Meekatharra a small mine. Somewhere halfway sector 1. One of the huge mines close to Laverton Coming in for the touch and go on runway 07
The windsock proves there was a bit of a cross wind A view from 2500 ft on Laverton, flying sector 2 now with tailwind. Not easy to see, but a glimpse of the eastern part of Irwin Lake. I hope MSFS is not making up this lake. I have my doubts. Almost there, turning to final Leonora. On short final for the dirt runway 12, as with the departure, better oriented towards the wind. Lots of dusts on touch down. Parked at Leonora.

Flight 06 YLEO - YPKG - YSCR
Nice overview on Leonora
After 18 minutes over Morapoi Station.
45 minutes into the flight, nothing special to report.
There are smaller mining sites like this one close to Mount Jewel. And there are very big mining sites like Kanowna Belle Gold Mine.
While descending for the touch and go an impressive view over the mine next to Kalgoorlie. Low enough to have a detailed view on the houses of Kalgoorlie. And climbing out after the touch down. Following the rail road Does this lake mean we are going to leave the desert behind? A nice string of smaller lakes. And than something unexpected happens, I fail to recognize the arrival airport and focus on the wrong patch of land.
At this point I failed to see the dirt runway and recognize the airport. In hindsight: missing the field and ruining my timing, I was still looking for the runway.
Starting to understand that the green patch in front of me is NOT the field. Climbing out at full power On downwind for a second attempt. Turning to base as close to the field as I dare. I do not want to spoil precious time. An aggressive final And touchdown. Parked and concluding that I failed to prepare for "the lay of the field" which would have been very well possible.
I lost about 4.5 minutes.
Maybe some of you are wondering how I make these screenshots. I use an addon called "Flight Recorder" by "nguyenquyhy" available on flightsim.to. Well ahead of every departure, touch and go and arrival, I start the recorder. And when ready I save the recording. Then, after the flight is finished, these recordings give me the possibility to search for nice screenshots.

Flight 07 YSCR - YESP Everything set, engine spooled up, ready for take-off
Turning to the course 142 magnetic to Esperance Flying over cultivated land and looking back to the field and Southern Cross 12 minutes into the flight, over uncultivated land again A cockpit view A string of small lakes, 24 minutes into the flight After 40 minutes the lake area of Lake Johnston and Lake Hope are coming into view Looking east along a northern shore line
And a third view on Lake Johnston / Lake Hope After 1 hour 3 minutes Lake Tay 6 minutes later a view on two landmarks: Peak Charles and Peak Eleanora. Lake Sharpe in the foreground. And after another 3 minutes Lake Mends. Arriving over the cultivated ground around Esperance.
And a clear view on the ocean, we crossed the Australian continent Turning to the heading of runway 11 On short final Vacating the runway Parked

Thanks Thom. I was already expecting you. I hope you will add some knowledge about the land we cross. I have a time management process which does not give me the time to search on the internet without loosing my focus. Every 5 to 10 minutes max I check my ETA at the next waypoint. I have some doubts about the beautifull lakes in MSFS. See you soon.

Hey Luuk and all of you: I#m back from my camper tour with my friend, so let's continue the rally! leg7 YSCR-YESP
ready to go, my bird is checked through and my friend Norbert just packed all his stuff and we travel on, each on his trip,... taking off towards south! this country has more holes than a swiss chees,...(Urs would laugh out loud...) some of them filled with water,..others with pure gold... the map says: Marvel Loch,...but cannot find a description,...who cares.... the engines run smoothly and I zip my tea in my "clockpit" ( old habit overtaken from Urs...) lakes and ponds from various sizes and directions... who the hell knows all their names... Luuk??? maybe Urs would have known, as he travelled a lot through Australia.... on one map there was the name "Fitzroy River" mentioned, "Murray River" too.... but no proof of this... not just an easy sight seeing here...lol following Banker-Mount Day Rd....sorry for the missing description.... this must be Frank Hamm National park... somewhere overthere,... anyway the Hyden-Norsman Rd. is identified and at the bend there are the so called "Breakaways" hooray we found one certain point.... www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g495061-d15246058-Reviews-The_Breakaways-Hyden_Western_Australia.htmlI think the scenic landscape is a must see if you are down there.... please don't ask about these waters haaaa,..... but here we see "Peak Charles" and "PeakElanora" famous camp sites.... Lake Tay on the right,...if you believe or not... North Cascade Crossing, the road leading to Peak Elanore and Peak Charles.... Lort River Crossing almoust crossed the continent from north to south,... cultivated land after outback and Woodland Discovery Trail.... setup for landing at Esperance Esperance is a town in the Goldfields–Esperance region of Western Australia, on the Southern Ocean coastline approximately 720 kilometres (450 mi) east-southeast of the state capital, Perth. The urban population of Esperance was 12,145 at June 2018. Its major industries are tourism, agriculture, and fishing. the airport is outside of town a little north from the sea, the Great Australian Bight on final,....secure for landing all my clocks are set perfectly... another "one wheel" touch down....seems to be a stepdance, this rally....lol timing not bad,..NOT bad!!! just 0.02 shot over.... seems to be a cosy little airfield.... BBQ, drinks and friends,...what more could you wish... open the door and let's have fun!!!

Leg 08, YESP - YABA Thom, thanks for your additional info about the land we are crossing. The rally would be an excellent way to learn more about Australia, but speaking for myself, it would take too much time. Even as I do it now, with the flying on time and taking the screenshots, it is already a complicated process. Adding an information gathering process on top of that, would be too much for me. Urs was a master narrator and and very good at adding interesting and amusing information. Back to my own style. Taking of at Esperance, the Pilatus does not need much runway length. Already quite some altitude gained at the end of the runway, giving a nice view on the apron and buildings. Flying on time restricts the detours you can take. This is about 13 km north of Esperance, about as close as we will get. West of Esperance, approaching the Great Australian Blight (thanks Thom), looking at the Lake Mortijnup Nature Reserve. Some 33 min in the flight, clouds are blocking the view on the coast. Looking back at the first cape of a row of three close to YRAA, Bremer Bay Airport. View on the second cape. After 1 hr 20 min the end of the sea stretch of the flight. A view on the Mount Manypeaks Nature Reserve. Turning towards runway 14 of YABA. Hopefully the visibility will improve. Runway in view. Almost there and sharp on time. Only the touch down remains, don't spoil it now.
Taxi to the apron. Parked.

Hi Luuk!
You do a great job! !!! Interesing story line, perfect screenshots, well done flight timing and of course the fotorealistic pictures! Thanks for your empathy to Urs, as I miss him every day! I just try to keep up his memory and create some history in his way of story telling,...as good as possible... and I tell you, right now I can imagine how much time he invested in all the wonderful scenery, his stories his humor his investigations and his knowledge! It all seemed to be just "natural story telling".....
R.I.P.
....btw, I will fly the next leg asap and follow your path!
See you ! Thom
