Here we are on Leg 04. Actually, it's 04a and 04b. Chicago Midway to Iowa City Municipal, then on to Millard Municipal in Nebraska. The scenery was very nice. You can fly over the whole thing at 2,500 ft and not worry. We had a pretty serious head wind, but that was not a big deal.
Here we are, getting out of Chicago:
We landed at Iowa City Municipal, killed No. 1 and swapped mail bags with some guys:
Here we are, blasting through the sky. Nancy did a pretty good job polishing this thing. She must have had help.
This was the most dramatic scenery on the whole flight:
Here we are on our approach into KMLE:
Got her down in one piece. Off-loaded the precious mail bags. Secured the airplane. The limo showed up on time for our ride into town. Ernie and I are keeping a watching out for Nancy, to make sure that she doesn't get too crazy.

That is a nice looking aircraft there, some interesting scenery too. Maybe I will fly a bit lower on my next few legs unless something crops up.

Flight 5 Sector 1 Minden KMLE to North Platte KLBF Leaving KMLE Sunrise takeoff on a little detour to Neligh, my hometown. Flying at Max Cruise power I should be able to cove the extra distance and still get ot North Platte on time. Werner Field NE56 at Valley, NE on the Platte River. Vally makes a lot of the center pivot irrigators Fremont, NE KFET on the Platte River KFOK Norfolk, NE Norfolk is the "Big Town" in the area. It has all of the Big Box Stores that smaller towns lack. Norfolk is pronounced Nor-Fork not Nor-Folk. The town was originally called North Fork, but when they applied for a post office it came back as Norfolk. Norfolk is famous as the home town of Johnny Carson. Antelope Couty Airport 4V9 at Neligh, NE. Neligh is pronounced Neely and was founded y John Neligh in 1873. He started the Neligh Mills in 1874 and provided flour and other products for many years. Today the building is a museum.

My hometown as depicted by ORBX. I grew up on farms around Neligh, graduated from high school and then off to the Navy. Never went back except to visit family. On to St. Paul. NE17 at St. Paul. The narrow grass strip ahead. North Platte, NE. I expected to see the Platte River, not sure why I can not. KLBF approach Touchdown Parked

Didn't get any pictures leaving Midway, it got a bit busy with all of the traffic...
Anyway, here we are, just crossing the "Mighty" Mississippi at Clinton, Iowa. Doesn't look all that mighty.
Took a little detour. Below is the burgeoning Metroplex of Lisbon/Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Lisbon to the left/east, and Mt Vernon the right/west. I went to High School in Lisbon, the class of 1976 had a total of 23 students. Pretty typical Iowa farm town. From here, it's 20ish miles to KIOW.
The landing in Iowa City was nothing to write home about. This will give you a better idea of how those old R-1820s smoke on start up. And at idle, sounds like a herd of Harleys. Gotta love it. BTW, that's the Plane Captain's view. I stood there many a time. Iowa City Municipal Airport is the oldest commercial airport West of the Mississippi still on it's original site. That's your trivia for the day
Williamsburg, Iowa. 31 miles west of Iowa City, on Interstate 80. You will note, my tailhook is down. Williamsburg is the birthplace, and final resting place, of Eugene Burton Ely, (21 Oct 1886-19 Oct 1911) Eugene Ely was the first man to take-off and land an airplane on a ship.
RIP, Mr Ely.
Eppley/Omaha Airport, and the Missouri River. Good bye, Iowa, it was good to be back, even if only for a day.

Sounds like a lot of nostalgia out there guys, lots of towns, cities with lots of history. All the way points you guys are using with a bit of meaning not just a number, I love this stuff so keep it up.
