Congrat Capflyer. Well done. And nice pictures and concluding words. And if I understand you correctly when the Connie arrives back in the US she has flown around the globe!
I just landed in Karachi a few hours ago and I agree that the rally brings us to areas which "are not the best covered parts of the FS world". Sometimes I feel like flying along endless sandy beaches. But when I check on google earth and the internet the reality is quite different.
Here is my report of Leg 11B, Bandar Abass Intl. to Jinnah Intl in Karachi.
Just finished fueling: 3500 lbs including 780 lbs reserve. It means that after half an hour flying on the main tanks I have to switch both engines to the center tank.
The arrival was in hazy weather, but the departure is not any better. Quite soon after take-off from runway 03L I start turning to the right to heading 139. No need to fly in the wrong direction for too long.Karachi is far enough.
Hormuz Island. On the northern point of the island (near the tail of the DC3) there should be the city of Hormuz.
If you look closely to the horizon you can see the Northern tip of Oman. The United Arab Emirats start just a bit further South.
Starting the overland stretch beween the Strait of Hormuz and the first waypoint: DME JBK.
The city Bandar-e-Jask and it's airport OIZJ. The new heading is 093 for almost one hour.
The Chah Bahar Bay with the city Chah Bahar at the eastern side of the bay. It's an important port in today's Iran. Close to the tip of the left wing the airport OIZC Konorac with VOR CBH.
Dasht river running into the Jiwani Bay near the border between Iran and Pakistan. Wikipedia told me that "the area around the bay includes an important mangrove forest".
Gwadar Bay with the city of Gwadar on the landbridge. The gray line is the arport OPGD Gwadar.
Leaving the airport OPPI Pasni with the NDB PI behind.
The city of Ormara is situated on the landbridge. Our waypoint is NDB OR close to the airport OPOR Ormara.
At last land ahead. This means we are coming close to our destination: Karachi.
Descending to Jinnah Intl. with Karachi clearly in sight.
Still descending with a hazy view of Karachi. The local weather is similar to that in Bandar Abass.
Making a left turn to runway heading 075.
A little too high, a little too fast and not well aligned. But the landing was still a gentle one. The DC3 can be very forgiving.
That was it. It was quite a distance and I must say I am very happy with the "save flight" option.
Regards, Luuk
