GAAR 2015 Flight 5 Saibai Island to Murray Island
My good comrade Thom is not to be envied! He is still grounded because of INOP radio-equipment! Well, he is now lolling in hammocks or doing some tours around the island - while I have to work! Off Block 00.56am zulu time. I learned in the fligh-briefing, that my next destination, Murray Island, is one of the highlight in this year GAAR, a 569m runway only. Some wind from the east! I also learned, NO accommondations on Murray Island! So I could not resist to load some “Food-cargo”. The rest is history – take off power etc.etc. No panic – tail is up! Any questions? More or less, a straight line to my fix for Murray Island. The main village of Saibai, in the northwest, has a population of 171. Cruising altitude 3500ft AMSL. For the next 86NM easy-peasy and listen to Brisbane Center on 120.300 MHz. 5 miles out runway 14 on 1000ft AMSL – the issue becomes clear! Now or never! All fine in the cockpit – go-around heading and altitude is set! Any runway there? .. softly, softly, catchee monkey - playing with the trottles and flightcontrols… Could not make it better! Wow! Using the full runway length for landing – and taxiing back to this very tiny apron. Yep, NO accommondations here! A big box of food and drinks is a superb thing! By the way: I nailed the time, I mean a tiny minus of 0.77’’ (46 seconds). See ya!

I get more and more angry about this .. ..anyway, I appreciate your wonderful screenies ! btw Urs, did you check your load?.. as you seem to need a looooong runway for takeoff....

Thom, you may have to navigate using your GPS if no radios. I can get you flight approval through my friends at CASA if you wish.
