More years ago than I care to remember I had a set of Janes Aircraft encyclopaedia, not the little pocket books but full size A4 hardback editions, I think there was around 6 volumes in the set or it may have been 4, can't remember. These volumes had so many aircraft listed that people including myself had never heard of.
After the early Comet disasters in the early 50's the pure jet airliner as we know it today was put to bed for many years whilst further research went on and we eventually ended up with the Boeing 707, followed by the DC-8, CV 880, Comet 4 and VC10 along with the smaller domestic or shorter range jets.
Obviously the most successful turboprops of the day was the Viscount and Friendship although many companies carried on experimented with fitting turboprops for the propliners of the era including the Super Constellation, DC6 / 7 and the Stratocruiser which eventually became the Supper Guppy.
A few made it through but in limited numbers such as the CV-580, which still flies in my homeland even today but so many of the projects were shelved with the jet age coming onboard and becoming successful around the late 1950's.

Rob I live just close enough to KOZW to watch a CV-580 freighter land and depart once a week. Still working hard , hauling freight. From the fact it only climbs to about 2500 ft. and heads straight for Pontiac/Oakland county I figure base of operations is there.

I'll be flying my MJ C-47 in DC-3 Airways livery, but wouldn't it be cool if somebody decided to fly a Capelis XC-12 in this auspicious event? All metal construction, but held together with sheet metal screws. More details: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capelis_XC-12.

I have made my registration about one week ago. I understand that I can only confirm that my registration has been received by looking at the Roster. Until now I haven't been able to access the Roster: is this normal or is there something wrong with my system?

Domingos

I have not seen the roster yet ether, I don't think it has been posted yet. Also unable to download the flights for the rally. Just the Test Flight.

Allan Lowson ,is a busy man , I suspect things should open up over the weekend. In the mean time I been practicing short field take off and landings with my entry to be sure I can get out over a 50Ft. tree in 3000Ft. no wind, fully loaded.

Fireworks are being planned for the end of leg 10, and should be ready few days after the flights downloads.

A temporary roster file is now online. For some reason the normal file is not linking properly from the index page.
Hacksaw and mallet will be applied until normal service is resumed.

As always GAAR is living up to it's reputation. Loads of concentration, but always fun.
Cheers

Well, GAAR 18 is a wrap for me. Great flying with some challenging (read "bumpy") weather.
Thanks to Allen and crew for another great job!
What's next?
