As an official newbie (though I've done two of your rallies unofficially) I'm really digging the land and float planes for this rally

Glad that you are enjoying, we will likely stay with this era of aircraft for this rally for some years to come, it will save Allan from tearing his hair out. :-)
Enjoy the rally and we hope that you will join us once again and fly the 2018 GAAR in February.

There is an area where Float planes an Land planes work together , The Carribean, could even throw in a tropical storm or two.

I was the guy that flew the helo (a Bell 47G). It was fun, and slow, and I got a good view of the country.
I also flew a Kaman HH-43 in the last GAAR. Also low and slow, with a grand view of the scenery. :-)
I really like the idea of a rally that you could fly in a seaplane. The idea of having a runway co-located is a good compromise.
Keep it in Canada, maybe dropping down into the Northern Tier once in a while, and I will certainly be on board.
Keep the rules as they are, maybe updating the upper end of the range a little. There is a HUGE amount of work involved, remember - KISS!

I remember you flying the Helo's in the rallies, if you enjoy them, fly them. How about a big Chinook or a Sea King that you can land on the water.
With this thread I am not trying to make drastic changes, I just want ideas for variety.
As the next BCAR and GAAR will be 2018 I will try and talk Allan into updating the aircraft cut off date to 1991, I think that was the year the Bazler Turboprop DC-3 was introduced, of which some may like to fly.
Cheers Rob

Turboprop conversions would allow many aircraft, The default Cessna Carivan ,Beech King air,Pilatius Porter all the Beaver an Otter conversions. Even an old Iron Piston/round engine fan can see change needs to be coming.

I thought about another helo, but didn't find any that I liked, that didn't involve messing with the contact points./ Just wasn't up to that, so I went with the Shagbat.
Don't do anything more than a little tweak here and there. It's a lot of work, and these are supposed to be fun!

Don,
At this stage the only change would be the update of aircraft manufacture cutoff to 1991.
As David said it will open up more aircraft to choose from if they wish, it is a selection idea only and nothing stopping anyone flying any aircraft, from the Wright Bros to 1991 piston or turboprop only, no pure jets.
I would like to introduce this aircraft " manufactured up to 1991" for next years GAAR, but the BIG BOSS has to agree first.
Cheers Rob

I like when rally competitors who know the histories or tales of the area submit there stories or actual pictures of towns and the people. I hope more will start doing so , the history adds so much more.

I found an FZX Mission that produces a Aurora Borealis effect on a flight from Hainze Alaska to Skakway , Maybe some one can figure out how to make it work at the finish line for the next rally. Tried with several aircraft , worked fine,Found at Simaviation as freeware. It was made by Don Olsson an Brian Sturton, very easy to load and uses all FSX standard scenery. just need somebody to figure out how to move to another location, and we will have a Finish Line display.
