I have been asked about the suggestion that the test flight is flown at an economical cruise. This is to allow you some leeway for tackling headwinds and generally dodging any weather or lumps that gets in your way.
If you look in the aircraft - kneeboard - reference and checklist, there may be guidance on cruise settings. Sometimes it just says Set throttle and propellers to suit, which is no real help.
For the DC-3 cruise settings are about 30" and 2,000 rpm. The same settings work for the Beech D-18S in amphibian and wheeled versions - this would be a good aircraft to cover all legs of the rally in FS9 or FSX. For the default Goose in FSX the cruise settings are 27" Hg and 1900 rpm. These numbers also work with the Mike Stone Goose but the speeds will probably be nothing like the same. Mike was never too bothered about the accuracy of his flight models. For the Cessna 172 the cruise setting is in the 2100-2700 rpm range.
If all else fails, most light GA aircraft usually have cruise settings in the 65-75% throttle range.
While you want to have a bit of margin to make up time, it is important not to overdo it. There is an allowance in the target times for climbing out and making a circuit on arrival. Flying too slowly will make a plane wallow about and tricky to handle. Then the event will not be any fun for you.
Try out any settings that you intend to use on a leg or two before registering a test time.

Here is one thing you want to allow for . The Ford Tri-motor has a rate of climb of a 3 toed sloth , I already found a situation where my safest option was to dump my fuel to minimum and fly out of the way and use river valley an passes to clear a range. But that is flying in the bush . Thank goodness for fuel at the destination.

I have ONE pilot number for two aircraft "Ford Tri-motor/Fairchild F-91" Do I file just the land plane Time in land plane legs. Just the Amphibian time in the float plane Legs?

That's right. I have set the roster up to base the target times for watery legs on the test times for the amphibian/float aircraft.
If you would rather that we split these aircraft into two separate entries that will be fine.
Cheers, Allan

WE are good , just wanted to be clear on how I need to enter. My times are going to be WAY off because I am trying routes so I do not have to climb above 9000 Ft.(not oxygen equipped) so it means some twist an turns from the straight course. I do love flying this part of the world.

hi Bud,
The weather is set up in one of the three files for each date. If you have copied the daily start files to your Fight Simulator X Files folder in documents then it should all be ready to go.
cheers, allan

When I carried out the test flights for each of the legs I used P3D v3, Rex Testures Direct, Rex Soft Clouds, Orbx Global Base and Vector, Orbx Trees. The scenery looks impressive.

#1-1980HowellMichigan #2-2004Howell lake Michigan ,actual colors. there is usually a fire works display at the end of the GAAR rally . I was wondering if someone could make a vivid Aurora Boroals (northern lights) display for the BCAR finish? Attachments:
