Yep, Cambridge is the final challenge, I don't want to make everything toooooooo easy for the expert pilots flying.
Another suggestion apart from Philippe's advice is have a little fly around the Cambridge area at dusk and become a little familiar with the approach before setting out on leg 10. We definitely do not want you to miss the farewell BBQ and grog that Urs chef is preparing.
Happy landings Rob

.. definitely not my friend! They are already working hard at Cambridge! "Phil" is about to commit espionage!!, but there is no more then the cover of the menu card: No chance to have look inside!!

Peter Watkins repaint for that scheme and Dave Moly's original Wicko model are both available at flightsim.
That should earn me a virtual pint when I'm on line with Dave on Sunday!

Urs, please pass on to PHIL,
My BBQ request......two dozen large pacific oysters with finely chopped bacon and cheese on top just lightly melted. one large crayfish diced in the shell and warmed, served with black bean sauce.
Wine and beer and let's try all the other drinks that are there.........

GAAR 2017, Leg2, Archerfield to Lismore Weather forecast for today’s flight: „Precipitation generally quite high“… I can see and feel it!! Winds from the south gusting up to 30 knots, low clouds, miserable sight and my «battle terrain» relatively high.. Go ahead and do it ! Starting up my technological achievement.. ..and checking all the necessary items in this muggy cockpit! All clear signals received.. ready for taxi! But man in tower says: „YBAF is controlling IFR“… Ah! – forget it!.. I’m on a Rally!! Jazzthom has left already.. and „Phil“ is preparing his aircraft.. OK, lets go for Runway 10L. Bye bye friends! Eh, it’s not easy to steer and hold the AN2 straight on the taxiway! Runway 10L, man in tower says: „You may go“.. ..will do so! Full power.. ..and my flying retarding force goes up in the air! (some mold fungus on the aircraft ?) This is called „aerodynamic“.. Turning south into the wind.. ..and climbing up to the lowest save altitude, which is 4000ft QNH ..bleak prospects for my further journey! At least ground contact ! Approaching the McPherson Ranges, Lamington Nationalpark.. ..and this must be the region, where the unlucky Stinson struck a mountain side in very bad weather conditions on his flight to Lismore – on 19 February 1937 „He plummeted into the dense forest below.. ..and bursting into flames“. I can very well imagine what kind of weather the flight crew have experienced! See here: linkTake a deep breather – I made it, the mountains are behind! Time to think about my descent! The landscape becomes kindlier.. ..and freshly washed. But still some fog patches near Lismore-Airport. Very well, says it all – I found Runway15 With this kind of headwind – it needs rather engine power to land the plane.. Very short landing distance – and hop into the first taxiway! Buddy Jazzthom made his way as well – very good. Oho! ..and what do my sleepy eyes see! After this difficult flight, I need at least: .. Annemarie, Bärbel and Christine!! – one bottle of Chardonnay, two glasses (one for Thom, one for me) and a juicy steak - please!

What a busy thread, that's cool ! Here are my pics for this "rememberance flight", from Archerfield to Lismore. Luckily I have a powerful aircraft and can climb above the clouds - it's less dangerous here Mountains, cliffs and deep forest - this is probably the area where the Stinson crashed 80 years ago Approaching Lismore There's a strong crosswind Didn't I tell you ? Not on the centerline, but we made it The bloody guy doesn't want to give way So, what else ? Now, let's look for Thom and Urs. Where are they hiding ? Hey, guys, I brought my own glass. Did you already empty that bottle ?

leg2 bad weather, new, "old" bird, not having slept enough the last night,...so the circumstances for this rememberance flight are kind of weird,...but we have to go through it,...so just take off and head south.... looking back to Archerfield... rainy conditions and bad sight, but some "new equipement" on the side.... flying through water is always kind of sad and the small forest fires seem to fight a sensless battle for survival as only steam comes up to the air.... always ground sight to have balance in the gray skies thinking a lot of Capt.Rex Boyden in his Stinson and bad conditions....................... kind of mental journey ..... airstrip in sight: Lismore ahead at the end touch down and "The Lismore" ahead.... first unloading some cargo then backtrack to the GAAR area and havin a beer with Urs and all you guys my lonely bird.... see you soon!

GAAR 2017, Leg3, Lismore to Port Macquarie Lismore Airport, February 22, about 11am.. coolish temperatures 15°C and I just coming back from the Met-Office.. the weather man is holding the view, that I can expect a smooth flight down to Port Macquarie, some scattered clouds overhead the plateau and reasonable wind from the southwest!! Thank you Mr. weather man! After starting my technical marvel and checking all important flying matters, its time again to wave farewell.. On my way to the active Runway. The Airport here looks quite empty after two days of festivities.. ..a lining up! Increasing engine-power and 1000hp awakes alive.. 5000ft QNH is my planned cruising altitude – setting the course direct to Grafton NDB and Airport! ..unfortunately no button to call for a cup of coffee !! – but what a beautiful live up here in the sky!! On my right, you see the city of Grafton. The city is located on the Clarence River and well known as the city of the «red gold» the Cedar-Timber Industry. I just had passed Grafton NDB and the Airport. Services to Sydney, RFDS-Base etc. A small, but quite a busy Airport it is ! Another cool highlight is coming up in front:.. ..travelling overhead different Nationalparks: Like the Chaelundi NP. ..or the New England NP. What a wonderland! But I have to think about my target-time and my approach !! Approaching Port Macquarie Airport from the north overhead the waters of the Hastings River. The town is located on the Tasman Sea coast, also very popular for a retirement destination, known for its extensive beaches fine seafood and… wine ! (I have to think about it!!).. I have my clearance to land in my pocket.. but a µ to late in time! Heee..! I can see my Hotel!! I try a very short landing.. ..and it worked well! Wow.. „Phil“ and his „Pack-Donkey“ is already here! I might have known it! Jazzthom’s vehicle on the scene as well – very good, and there is some space for me! It is Beer o’clock time!! It was really a cool and smooth flight today, without any occurrences at all..! Full of foreboding!! Eh, look at this boxes! Fresh lobster, wine.. You can't go wrong with that! Slowly but surely I’m suffering of sleeping deprivation BUT… ..who wants to miss that great BBQ and Jazzthom’s Quartett? – thats the icing on the cake!!

Oh yes, you're right Thom. After I watched your pics once again, I realized that the GAAR tent is on the other side of the "terminal". No problem, let me disconnect Ground Power and join you there for a drink and some more stories about the first 3 flights. See you in a bit.
(The roster says we're 48 pilots, plus friends, staff, friendly locals, and Annemarie, Bärbel and Christine. And probably a few kangaroos too...)
