NZAR 15 Leg one from Whenuapai NZWB to Whangarei NZWR G'day friends, yep it's me, the chap from Switzerland! This time I like to spend some funny days with you in New Zealand. Just behind me, my old C-47 in "Kiwi-look" - just purchased! Cheap and cheerful but she boozes gasoline like a fish.. Nevertheless, lets start the engines for round 1 Farewell my friends - the New Zealanders are crazy about BBQ like the Australians.. Departure on rwy 03 All set in my "office" - 45" MAP and 2500 RPM - off the brakes - and here I go! . shortly after, reducing to Climb-power and going for heading 300° - beware of Hot-Air-Balloons! 4500ft QNH is my cruising altitude and I travelling in comfort with 30" MAP and 2050 RPM overhead the "Kaipara Harbour" direction to my first waypoint "Dargaville Airport". The Tasman Sea is greeting on my left. Approaching Dargaville Airport. Dargaville also has one of the longest unbroken stretches of sand beach in New Zealand, and is largely drivable from one end to the other. This beach is home of the famous local shellfish delicacy called the toheroa, a large and very tasty species. Unfortunately we do not land here. After passing Springfield NDB it's time to prepare for landing in Whangarei. Whangarei is the northernmost city in New Zealand and the regional capital of Northland Region. The Airport and Harbour lies just in front of me. What a pleasing landscape! Downwind for rwy 06 .. and final rwy 06. Its quite a bumpy ride.. .. and so the landing! To be honest, ... I was jumpily! Highly delighted! Whangarei, here I come! Fire up the BBQ and grill the Lobster! Very well, my first NZAR15 flight and hope for many more! Ah, I just got the news, that Jazzthom will follow shortly - believe me, his old C-117 looks rustier than mine!! Cheers

NZAR 15 Leg two Whangarei NZWR to Tauranga NZTG The wines of New Zealand are special, bridging the gap between the styles of the New and Old Worlds. While high quality, super-intense versions of sauvignon blanc afforded New Zealand international recognition. No wonder that I was changing from grilled Lobster to NZ-Shellfish. Thank you for your hospitality folks. But back to work! Sitting already in the cockpit and preparing my flight to Tauranga. That will be a nice scenery all along the way down to my next nightstop! Well then, both engines are about to come alive.. .. and soon after I'am on the way to runway 06 The Kiwi on my vertical tail looks a bit chicken-hearted while I turning into take off position. Maybe he is acrophobic! OK, take off power is set - off the brakes! Flying eastbound - to the Great Barrier NDB. There are no words for this stunning beauty around me!! Flying on 4000ft only.. .. and things in the cockpit are in working order! Leaving the coast to cross the Craddock Channel. Some small Islands on my way, like the Hen and Chicken Is. Well and here is the Great Barrier Island, a world away from the hustle and bustle of a city. Overhead the Great Barrier Aerodrome. Flying a new heading.. .. to Matarangi and Pauanui Airport. And from there.. .. its just only a short hop to Tauranga. Here it is. Tauranga is one of New Zealand's main centres for business, international trade, culture, fashion and horticultural science. After checking with the ATC, runway 25 will be my runway to land. Still some time left to have a look at Motiti Is. On the my final leg.. .. and cleared to land with abundant crosswind from the right! Not easy! Well, I made it - and the best thing is that tent on the right! I just heard: The Taurange Waterfront is splendid for Restaurants - I'm off!!

Hey there guys,....as always, Urs' screenies are mindblowing!!! I am still heavy working that my old bird learns flying and it's really sweaty power consuming work; but I hope I could fix all the leaking oilpipes, filling up all spareparts and trying to take off soon.... my pc is just running on the edge with high power cooling fan and aching like an old horse.... but with enormous help and magnificent supply from Switzerland we could fly in all the needed stuff for take off..... so I'll on the fly right away: coming soon!!!! Thom

NZAR 2015 Leg three Tauranga NZTG to Gisborne NZGS Friends, after my arrival in Taurunga few days ago, I was invited by the local Aeroclub to have some cans of the New Zealanders National drink - Gosh! Well, finally I found my way to the Hotel and the Taurunga Waterfront. It's grant worthy to visit the place!! But today I feel fit to fly - I mean, the Airplane is flying - I just have to sit down and relax! Joking aside: I made a very serious flightplan down to Gisborne. So let's start #2 The ATC-Girl is telling me I shall to taxi for runway 25 - YES ma'am! So here I am and will take off shortly. HDG, CRS and ALT is set and checked - the ATC-Girl say's, I shall take off - YES ma'am! After doing a nice left turn, flying now east in direction Whakatane NDB - Good bye TaurungaReaching 5500ft and reducing to cruise speed. On my left: The Bay of Plenty. The Bay of Plenty region is home to spectacular beaches, juicy kiwifruit and New Zealand's only active marine volcano. In front of me: Motuhora Is. a small uninhabited island located off the Bay of Plenty coast. Just beautiful! Yep, first waypoint is checked. Whakatane. Flooding in 2004: A total of 245.8 mm of rain fell in Whakatane in the 48-hour period and many small earthquakes were also felt during this time. Starting to cross the Raukumara Ra. Below the chasm of the Motu River. The river passes through mostly uninhabited hill country, very steep and still thickly covered in rainforest. Do you hear that? engines? The Raukumara Ranges. It forms part of the North Island's main mountain chain, which runs north-northeast from Wellington to East Cape The Waipaoa River rises on the eastern slopes of the Raukumara Range, flowing south for 80 kilometres to reach Poverty Bay and the Pacific Ocean just south of Gisborne. Thom, looks like it's a fine spot for fishing trouts!! Hooray! Gisborne.. Traveling on a high RH downwind for runway 32 overhead the Poverty Bay. The ATC tells me to land! On the PAPI ..and a smooth landing! Gisborne Airport serves as the domestic airport for the Gisborne Region. Regular flights between Auckland and Wellington are serviced by Air New Zealand under the Link brand, while the smaller airline Sunair provides services to other New Zealand centres such as Hamilton, Napier, Rotorua and Tauranga, and Air Napier provides services to Napier and Wairoa. Parking up to you - nice, I steer direct close to the tent
Well, I think I need a drink of the Nation!!
