Flight 06. Arrived at Gibb River a few minutes early, so we flew a couple laps around a very scenic holding pattern. Here we are on the downwind at YCIB: Here we are, lined up with Rwy 07: Got her down in one piece. Nobody died: Cool. Seeya ATB

Flew flight 04 yesterday. Ernie complained about the comfort of his seat. Nancy was looking forward to having a great time at our destination. I fly these rallies my own way. We have a Garmin GTN 750 in the airplane, and Ernie and I always use it to the fullest. I look at the weather and guesstimate which runway we’ll be using at our destination. If there’s an approach I’ll add that to the flight plan, and attempt to adjust my speed so that everything evens out. The purists can dead reckon – I like the gadgets.
Same deal with my motorcycle rides. I will attend the BMW Motorcycle Owner’s National Rally in Redmond, Oregon in June. The very next weekend is the Chief Joseph Rally in John Day, Oregon. I’m registered for both and have motel rez’s all set up. Yeah, but what to do for the weekdays between the two rallies? Hmm. Guess I’ll make a speedrun down to Vegas to visit my sister. My Beemer has a Garmin Nav VI, which is the mc equivalent of the GTN 750. Nevada is a wide-open place. Probably will be able to cruise at 85+ mph on those NV backroads. I’ve got the ingress and egress totally planned, including gas stops. Need to remember that I’m not in the sim while riding the bike!

Flew Flight 3 today. Used historical Active Sky. The weather was pretty good. Some some big white sharks in the waters below. Glad everything was working well.

Thank you Allan and the rest of the team for setting up GAAR 2024. We're sure to enjoy it.
I have a question:
On the opening web page, it says: "The daily flights are supplied with weather based on April 2023." Does this mean that we could fly with Active Sky set in historical mode for the date and time of the flight that is given in the time and weather summary? That would save a bit of hassle because I like to save my flight at the destination airport then my airplane is all ready to go for the next flight. I have to mess around with the .WX files in order to associate the correct weather file with the next flight. It would be nice if I could just fly with Active Sky set for the appropriate time of the related flight.
Thank you ATB

Hi Cees, Apologies for that oversight. For now, the P3D plan for Leg 07 should work fine as a stand-in. the reason for having so many waypoints on Leg 07 is to steer pilots through the pass west of Mt Shasta. The pass can be flown at 7,200'. Cheers, Allan Just before the Oregon border Ernie and I decided that the passengers (we had a few friends along with all that mail) needed some excitement, so we took her out of autopilot and flew nap-of-the earth along I-5 up to Rogue Valley. We may have caused a slight disturbance at the outdoor stage at the Shakespeare festival in Ashland. "Oh, the shame of it all..." ( Chino, played by Lee Marvin in the movie, "The Wild One.") Flight 07 was a fun flight. My old stomping grounds. Only thing is, I’d be on Interstate 5 on a fast motorcycle, like a BMW K1300S. Riding south from Seattle on I-5 is really boring through most of Oregon. You’d like to go 110 mph just to get it over with, but you can’t, because it’s mostly two lanes on each side, and one motorhome takes about 20 minutes to pass another, with a whole line of cars backed up waiting for their turn. Things open up a little when you get down to Grants Pass. Much better south of Ashland. The big sweepers in the Siskiyous are great. California actually has these signs that say “CAUTION! Your speed is XXX!” It’s fun to see who can get the high score. Gotta watch out for the man. Also the “Bear in the air.” Adrenalin. One time, on the way home, I stopped at the Dunsmuir airport and got a picture of a Grumman S2F. Unfortunately I lost it in the great hard drive crash of 2016. Fortunately I had it saved on Google Photos!! Here are a couple shots taken while flying past Mt. Shasta: Seeya ATB

Flying over the foothills east of Hollister (site of the July 4, 1947 motorcycle gang riot that inspired the movie "The Wild One"): Spotted on the way into KSFO: Seeya ATB

Ernie, Nancy, and I completed the mission - all ten flights. It was great. I totally enjoyed it. Since I was flying my C-47 in the P3D sim I was careful to avoid being entertained... Thank you, Allan, for putting together this great series of flights. Seeya ATB

Nice to be back. I almost missed it as I kept looking up to the middle of March then problems at home and with MSFS meant I forgot to look and only just made it before last nights deadline. This year I'm attempting it in the British European Airways ( G-AGHL ) DC3 on MSFS - should be fun but hard work. I haven't found a way to put the timer in the aircraft so am doing it the hard way with a clock. I have to say the scenery around these airports is astounding in MSFS, the colours, elevations and detail are way, way better that flying in FSX the last time I did this. I've already managed to do two flights and am looking forward to see what the next flights bring. Glad you are back. These flight are lots of fun. Good people puttin' 'em together, and all of us crazy people flyin' 'em. Meanwhile, bleep MSFS. I'll switch from P3D v5 to MSFS right after they get Army 155, my A2A P-40 working in MSFS. Not until. Meanwhile, I'll keep flying in P3D (no entertainment allowed). Keep on rockin' in a free world, man ATB

Thank you very much for the flightplans.pln!
Because this flight is a continuous route, after landing at the destination (and writing down the flight time!) I like to save the flight as the next flight in the sequence. That way I'll be in my MJ C-47, set up the way I like it, at a proper parking spot when I fire up my sim to begin the next flight. Only problem is that I'll be using the weather for previous flight. I fix that by copying the appropriate flight weather from the GAAR 2023 download folder into my flight plan folder right after shutting down the sim from the previous flight. Maybe that sounds complicated, but it relieves me of the task of switching from the default airplane and making all sorts of adjustments to get my chosen airplane configured as I prefer it.

Updated flights for FS9, FSX, and P3D have been uploaded as a V2 link, along with Plan-G flightplans. Apologies for the inclement weather in previous versions. Thank you! Changes downloaded and applied. Seeya ATB

One photo take from Flight 07. Some of our passengers were asking why the lavatory door was locked. The reason for that is that Ernie really hates to take care of getting it cleaned out when we reach a destination. Plus, they don't always have the necessary facilities at some of our destinations. Therefore, we offer our passengers the unique opportunity of "pissing in the wind." It's actually pretty cool, so long as you don't forget to hang on to the door frame. Here's a picture, taken when we were between guys. Try that in your Comanche! Seeya ATB

Sorry - I don't have any photos for flight 03. Nothing out of the ordinary happened. No entertainment was involved (I'm flying P3D v5 academic, and, as we all know, entertainment is strictly forbidden). Well, we were almost entertained when Nancy actually took off her girdle in the cabin! Oh man! Ernie and I are going to keep a close eye on her as we work our way through the various night spots, as we make our way to the Golden Eye Hotel (a 5-star establishment).
