We are always open for suggestions of how to improve our rallies including the GAAR.
Is the idea of using seaplane bases popular or would pilots rather stay with land planes.
Please post any suggestion here, they are always welcome and appreciated

Hullo All,
A seaplane based rally would be a hoot! I would join in a short minute!
There is enough airspace/airfields to tootle around Canada for a while. Something in the Maritimes would work...

I enjoy flying the Ford on the land plane segment and the Fairchild for the Seaplane segments. I worry that it makes scoring difficult. A seaplane Rally would be good , skill tested on rivers , lakes ,bad weather, fog with no Ils/Loc. I'll go.

Thanks Guys,
I agree with a seaplane rally, the only problem is that we always get a good number flying from DC3 Airways flying their beloved aircraft but not all have the float plane version.
The only alternative would be to use seaplane bases with land airports nearby, hence the choice of float and land planes flying side by side.
Apart from the GAAR we will be staying in Canada and Alaska for some years to come with the possibility of a holiday rally to a different country sometime down the track.
Keep the suggestions coming, they are greatly appreciated.
Cheers Rob

A wild thought, a STOL rally(like the small forest service airports in Alaska/BC/the Rockies) with cargo aircraft having to air drop fuel and supplies into the small fields(which become turn points) an return to major supply airports. option of flying Kites into harms way. or fully loaded multi-engine trying to located dirt strips in no where, and weather, then drop Cargo from no higher than 1000Ft AGL. Just for "pucker factor" .I have a sick mind at times...

sorry , hit the button twice . Just looking over maps and finding out how hard it would be to find enough airports for an STOL rally. Fields less than 1500Ft. Runways are few an far between.Found the answer, duh, the Bluegrass Tough Man Challenge series. Attachments:

That suggestion could be incorporated into a conventional rally for a couple of legs, well worth thinking about.
I would like to know people's thoughts on using two aircraft types within a rally regardless of type or size.
Normally I base our rallies on DC-3 performance because so many fly the old girl, but they are not quite STOL such as a Caribou.
I remember on one of our NZAR rallies one pilot flew a Helo which of course is an aircraft. There are no restrictions on what you fly except for manufacture date, which I am trying to convince Allan to up some to a more modern date to open up the rallies somewhat, this of course would not restrict anyone from flying the older types, land or seaplanes, Helo's, autogyro's or Zepplins.
Myself, I would like to compile a jet rally where you could fly any jet from a Sabre to a Boeing 747, short range flights between major cities of a nation between 90 and 250 minutes.
Cheers Rob

All Jet would be great , would JATO be allowed , some of my favorites like long long runways. I would have no problem with more modern aircraft entered if it brings more entries. Maybe a Carrier touch an go.

If we could talk Allan into trying it as an experiment that would be fine, even if it was a mini rally of 5 or 6 legs.
I do not think a carrier landing would be a good idea as some would like to fly the Heavy Iron and would be rather difficult putting a 747 onto a carrier, just watch that R/H wing..
If Allan did agree to try a jet rally, I would compile it using the PMDG 737-800.
Does any other VA have an all jet rally, not that I know of, but we still do not want to injure Bluegrass's image of a Prop VA, although many of us including myself Pirep jet flights with our everyday flying.
Your thoughts also please Allan.

P.S to above post,
On second thoughts these two rallies the GAAR and this rally take many months to compile, myself planning and flying each leg many times to fine tune it, compiling the flight plans for Allan and then after that Allan takes over with the massive job of running the show. All this has to fit in with our everyday lives, so two rallies per year takes some time.
Disregard my above post as I was only on my second Scotch and Coke, I still like the idea of jet aircraft but in my opinion incorporate one or two jet legs where it would be beneficial to cover a large area void of airports and then return to your primary aircraft, much the same as we have done in this rally using the seaplanes. This would also eliminate the double sector on some legs. They say variety is the spice of life and with our present sim's the sky is the limit, that is why I am asking for suggestions and ideas
These ideas are for this rally only, the GAAR would remain untouched and carry on as is has done for many years.
Any input Allan ?
Cheers to all Rob

I think MUTTLEY'S HANGER around the world flight allows jet aircraft. It is not set up the same as the DC3 Airways, Bluegrass , or Muttley's Easter Rally, but you could get your Jet fix there. I have thought of entering it(MUTTLEY'S tour), but the biting for segments, an strict time-PIREP schedule scares me off due to my poor health.

Rob, If you stopped polluting the Scotch with Coke you might stop entertaining ideas about the J word You'll be sticking ice in it next. An Islay Malt with a touch of water to open up the flavour will reduce the hallucinations. (So I'm told) Just about our only given is that we aim to continue to emphasise flying in the golden age of propliners, however some means of letting folk play with jets in the autumn rally bears thinking about. We could keep the legs within a reasonable time range for propliners as alternatives for the die-hards. Now I'll try to catch up on the overdue newsletter before I have to set off on work travels again tomorrow. Cheers, Allan

Thank Allan for reply and noted.
Sorry about adding to the scotch, I just can't drink it straight, regardless of quality :-(

Don't change a thing. Just keep doing what you are doing. Ernie, Nancy, and I will be there in our tired old C-47. I'll be whistling the theme from "High and the Mighty." Oh yeah, last time I saw him, the doc said I should drink more clear liquids. Gordon's Gin fits the bill just fine.
