On approach to Queenstown. Pretty flight up the lake.
And leaving the same. In the rain! Rain and helos don't always mix...
Sorry I didn't get a shot of my arrival to Invercargill. Trust me, I did arrive. Here, we are leaving. I was actually here for a couple of days in the 80s (1982, maybe.)
Invercargill Seabase. Anyone ever fly into or out of here?
Bugs? No problem. With the temps hovering right around 0 C, bug splats are not an issue!
Just a little haze to liven things up.
And off to the port side, Lake Hawea, just to the North East of Wanaka

Leaving Ashburton. 0515. The crack of dawn. Any earlier, and I would have been logging night hours.
See those funny looking gray and orange airplanes? I flew them out off Christchurch (NZCH) to Williams Field (NZWD), McMurdo Station, for 3 seasons. Defiantly the most interesting job I ever had!
Another shot of the Ice Pirates!
The Clarence River, just above Kaikoura. One of the great advantages of a helo...low and slow. 1500 AGL, 85 KAIS, what a view!
And the approach to Omaka.
The next leg is going to hurt. Almost 3 hours in the seat!

Don, Maybe you should have done a quick landing beside one of those C-130's and borrowed one of their seats for the long haul in the chopper... 😃

Rob, believe it or not, the helo seats are more comfortable.
This is what my seat looked like.
Pretty familiar to any one that has ridden military air.
This is what the back of the airplane looked like...
And another view...(different flight)
The first one was on a flight to Amundsen-Scott Station. The second was Christchurch to Willy Mac. Like I said, the most interesting job I ever had.

Truth in advertising time. I didn't take these pics. They came off the web. None of my pictures have survived 30ish years and many moves.
